it it was amazing Review from the author Shelves wrote my very own self i did You could describe Pyrrhic Kingdom as Cthulhu Macbeth The plot will kind of sort of remind you of Macbeth, and Pyrrhic Kingdom has conspiracies, secret societies and ancient horrors from beyond time and space instead of witches and a rebellion After all, it was a rebellion that got the whole plot of Macbeth moving.Anyway, can t review Biased I wrote it Pyrrhic Kingdom, I mean Not Macbeth That was Shakespeare who was freely adapting other stuff but never mind that right now flag 3 likesLike see review Jan Lovecraft and a lot scarier than Shakespeare leaving the reader with a feel like Poe s writing The Story follows the same basic outline of Shakespeare s Macbeth but instead of being a power struggle among Scottish Nobles the story follows a modern day group of monster killers I would guess the story happens in a slightly off 1970s America as there are no cell phones but they have sports bags There is no mention of computers but the Company as they call themselves deliberately uses paper files and reports as a way to protect their secrets The Company is a secret society dedicated to protecting mankind from the evil things in the dark corrupting the hearts of men The few non human monsters we encounter are very Cthulhu like and spread horror and madness wherever they go.The book follows a few men who have seen too much and suffered much for duty They are concerned that their Company is failing and unable to keep up with the spread of evil There are fewer and fewer agents in the field fighting evil For this they blame the current president of the Company and plot against him In the end the man most concerned with the future of the Company ends up killing the leader and takes over Following the traditional Shakespearian Edger Allen Poe flow the killer feels remorse for killing his leader since Company men should not kill their fellow man Much like in the play and poetry the killer goes mad he tries to kill his best and most loyal friend In the end the killer himself is killed The friend is then made president of the Company and everything seems to be getting better. There is a major subplot following the Ladies Katherine or if you were following the Shakespeare terminology the three Crones or Witches They influence the flow of the story with their prophecies and visions In the end I suspect they had of a hand in the plotting and planning of the male Company Men and what they did than what was obvious to the reader It felt as if they had a desired outcome from their words At one point I was sure the ladies were working with the dark against the Company or playing both sides against each other The kind of subplot could almost hold up its own book.I have rambled on longer than I intended, the book is good and a fast read give it a try flag 2 likesLike see review Jun 21, 2016 Lyn rated it liked it Shelves giveaways, reviews Definitely like that Anyway, from what I can tell after reading it, this book was about a religious group fighting demon type creatures They also fight amongst themselves, and I think the main character may have died, but that s one of the things that wan t clear Maybe the book is supposed to be confusing the characters themselves spend much of their time saying I don t know , so that the reader can have their own idea of what happened, I don t know But it was an interesting book, that s for sure.Note I received this book for free through Groodreads Giveaways flag 1 likeLike see review David rated it
