  • This is one of my favorite books by the late Jack Myers, and his last published book. Myers was a straight-forward poet with comic timing often aptly compared to poets like Thomas Lux or Billy Collins. Myers' humor, however, is darker than Collins or Lux, and a bit more gritty. This book touches are particularly hard topics like the death of Myers' adult son and his own declining health. • This book of poems was put together after the author's death. The book itself is dedicated to the author's son who died shortly before the author's death. The last 1/3 of the book has quite a few poems on being old and the son dying. • This book is a precious find. Intimate, heart-breaking, and yet hopeful. The arrangement of this collection is perfect ebb and flow of life, death, understanding, and grief. In his poem "The World's Highest Mountain," these lines say it all:In the end if the work each one has donehas made a space inside for someone else, it's sacred. The Memory of Water is a sacred and painfully brilliant work of art.
